Masterclass: Funding Your First Feature: Sunray Fallen Soldier

THE GTC TELEVISION ACADEMY ONLINE MASTERCLASS
Funding Your First Feature: Sunray Fallen Soldier

26 February - 7.00pm - 8.00pm

Daniel Shepherd and James Clarke are filmmakers who took an ambitious leap with their debut feature, Sunray: Fallen Soldier, now available on Apple TV, Prime Video and Sky. Both former Royal Marines Commandos, they transitioned into filmmaking using firsthand experiences to tell authentic, emotionally resonant stories.

When the idea for Sunray was born during the 2020 lockdown, they faced the same challenge many first-time filmmakers encounter—funding. Determined to bring the project to life, they turned to the power of community, launching a highly successful crowdfunding campaign that raised over £66,000. Alongside industry support and the involvement of fellow veterans, they navigated the complex landscape of independent film financing, proving that passion and resourcefulness can overcome even the toughest obstacles.
