The Bill Vinten GTC University Awards was held on 27 November at STEAM - The Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon, with our 50th Anniversary celebrations and 2022 GTC Awards.

Anglia Ruskin University
The winner of the Bill Vinten GTC University Award 2022 was Agata Kazmierczak from Anglia Ruskin University for her work on Roots.
The judges described this as a beautiful and melancholy film praising the cinematic feel that captured the sense of isolation. The plot and emotions were portrayed with no dialogue, just pictures, and action.
Presenting this award to Agata was former GTC Council member and judge, Alan Duxbury.
The University Trophy is awarded to the highest scoring portfolio of three films submitted by a university and is given in recognition of the teaching across the different genres. The University Trophy was presented to Dan Hopkins, from Coventry University, who was joined by one of the contributing students, David Bohus.
They were presented with the Trophy by Elaine Vinten, the widow of Bill Vinten.
Jamie Oliver Lai
London South Bank University
Jamie Oliver Lai who studied at London South Bank University was runner-up for his work on Tell Tyler. The judges liked the use of locations, the lighting and well executed camera moves.
Presenting this award to Jamie was GTC Council member and judge, Martin Hawkins.
Emily Cooney
University of Surrey
Third place was won by Emily Cooney, University of Surrey, for her work on For a New Age, a documentary that one judge called a vibrant film with excellent, difficult close ups and engaging contributors.
The award was presented to Emily on the evening by Chris Owen, former head of cameras at ITV and one of the judges of this year's awards.
