VMI Bristol celebrates its 10th anniversary this month and to celebrate, Gary and Jon are planning 10 events this year, which will be free to attend and publicised on our website to include: Macros, Gimbals, Motorised Sliders, Reds, High Speed and more.
Our first event this year will be spread over 2-days inviting everyone to gather, explore gear, reconnect with friends, and meet new faces.
Partnering with Bristol Film School (Boomsatsuma), we’ll host a unique studio event, showcasing a wide range of equipment in a fun, community-focused setting - perfect after the challenges of recent years. There will be something for everyone and we really hope that you can join us.
The winner of VMI and Sustainable Film's 2024 Sustainable Film Competition is The House of Fish by Santiago Burin des Roziers. Shot in Talamone, Italy, the ambitious production impressed judges with its comprehensive treatment.
Santiago wins a camera and grip package, carbon footprint analysis, and a bespoke sustainability strategy. The documentary explores combating destructive fishing through an underwater museum of marble sculptures.
DEEP FOCUS AND FORCED PERSPECTIVE PRIMES
The Infinity Photo-Optical MikroMak primes are different to normal primes because their design is based on microscope principles, to deliver exceptional clarity and quality.
These are the UK's first set of eight Full-Frame primes designed to generate deep focus, forced perspective and up to 6x macro images. Extreme depth of field means that pulling focus is often unnecessary.
Thanks to Charlie Paul of Itch Film for the 1st clip and to Duncan Telford for the second clip, both of which were shot using MikroMak primes.
The lens is a constant in image-making, essential for both still and moving visuals and while sensor quality now shapes digital images, replacing film stock or tape, the variety of lenses available today is vast. So it is important to understand exactly why we might choose to use anamorphic, FF or vintage lenses. Here is our take on this.
VMI has been shortlisted for the SME Green Business of the Year at the West London Business Awards 2025 with the winner to be announced later this month.
VMI has won much recognition for its decarbonising efforts and we are thrilled to be recognised once more for this.
VMI’s 2021 net zero plan aimed to convert its diesel fleet to EVs by 2025 but was hindered by payload and range issues, however by November 2024, most vehicles are now EV or hybrid, which we estimate will reduce diesel emissions by 60%+ in 2025 compared with 2021.
Miles' EV Hybrid van on a on a cold January morning will ensure another zero emissions day for VMI!
